Glendale Community,

We have had a great beginning of the school year here at Glendale. The combination of great students and staff along with support from our parents and community have helped jumpstart the school year. We are very excited about our upcoming home football game on Friday. Our players, cheerleaders, band members, students, and parents are excited about the new bleachers and having our first home game. As many of you know, we have been working with the construction company to ensure that the bleachers were ready for our first Varsity home game. I am pleased to let you know that DeWitt and Associates have done an incredible job under very difficult circumstances to finish the bleachers and have them ready for Friday September 3rd. They deserve a well done and thank you. At this time we will be playing football at Glendale this Friday and using our new stadium bleachers. We hope to see you here on September 3rd at 7:00 pm.

Go Falcons!!

Our Falcons showed some glimpses of greatness, as well as the need for another week of practice before the season opener at the Joplin Eagles. There was a good crowd in attendance, including many of GHS’ student body. Two of these three teams will be repeat oponents later in the season (Central and Hillcrest).

FUNDRAISER

The Football team is looking for parents and students (ten and older) to volunteer during the 2010 K-Swiss Ironman in Branson. Our team will earn $300 for every 15 people that volunteer per shirt (shift lasts 3-4 hours) as a group. Opportunities for volunteering start on Wednesday, September 16 through race day on Sunday, September 19, 2010. If you are interested in helping with this fun and excited event, please email Courtney Heman. Please include your name, phone number, GHS Football, and times you are available so that I create groups to benefit our team.
Please contact me through email by Friday, August 6th.

INFORMATION FROM BRANSON CHAMBER OF COMMERCE:

The K-Swiss Ironman 70.3 Branson is a 2010 Qualifying Series Member Event to be held on Sunday, September 19, 2010. Currently, there are 1,061 athletes registered to complete representing 37 states and 3 countries. Pro athletes registered to compete are Pip Taylor, Devon Palmer, Kelly Williamson, Leon Griffin and TJ Tollakson.
In order to make our event unforgettable for athletes, spectators, media representatives and VIPs from all over the world, more than 400 volunteers are needed. We are inviting local non-profit organizations with 501(c)(3) designation (including schools and churches) and military organizations to provide (15) or more volunteers for the event. In appreciation, Ironman will donate $300 to your organization for your efforts! There are many ways in which your group can be part of this great experience … whether they want to manage bike and run aid stations, serve as course marshals or manage transition areas – we look forward having them on our Team! Shifts will vary but generally last 3-4 hours with some beginning as early as 5 a.m. on Sunday, September 19, 2010. Volunteers may also be required earlier in the week to assemble athlete information packets and to register athletes.

I wanted to share some thoughts with everyone about the MSU camp. The competition at camp was fierce with 2 state champion teams and a state runner-up team in attendance. My initial thoughts and impressions about our players’ performance were so positive that I thought I better watch film to make sure they were well founded. After having some time to review film I’m still extremely happy with the way our team played. Going into camp we decided our players would play offense or defense in order to apply their full attention to one position. Although this left us very thin in some positions I believe this allowed our team to achieve at a higher level. We are still not ready to be a true two platoon team but we are getting close.

I want to give special recognition to the five offensive linemen that played every single play in camp. Alex Givens, Riley Shantz, Connor Menown, Logan Bauer, and David Randall were true warriors. I also want to recognize Kinjo Omar for being named the Defensive Lineman MVP of the camp. The most exciting thing for me was the fact that Coach Allen, head coach at MSU, commented to me more than once that our team’s attitude and the way our players conducted themselves was outstanding. We certainly have a long way to go before the beginning of the season but we are on the right track and we have a group of young men that are committed to having a good season. Please encourage your son to attend summer fitness class from 8:00 am to 11:00 am Monday through Friday. It will take dedication from every single member of the team for us to reach our goal of winning a District Championship in 2010.

Enjoy the rest of the summer!
