It was a clash of winless teams, with both our Glendale Falcons and the Waynesville Tigers coming into the game at 0-4. Unfortunately it was our Falcons who suffered a 5th straight loss, as the Tigers handed us a 14-43 defeat.
Just like last week, our Falcons came out strong, taking the opening drive for a touchdown, and a 7-0 lead. But Waynesville would respond with 2 quick touchdowns, to take a 7-14 lead by the end of the first quarter. With turnovers plaguing the Falcons, Waynesville would tack on another touchdown in the second quarter to build up a 7-21. But our Falcons were not quite done yet, and a quick 64-yard pass from Adam Noble to Trevor Vaughn resulted in a touchdown, to draw the Falcons within 14-21. By the end of the half, our Falcons were driving again, but with only 1 timeout left by then, there just wasn’t enough time for a score, as time ran out while Evan Leake had run the ball deep into Tiger territory - 14-21 halftime score.
After a decent first half, the second half got away our Falcons - it would see the Tigers capitalize on more Falcon turnovers (at least 3 Falcon turnovers led directly to Tiger touchdowns), while our offense would stall. The game ended with the Tigers scoring their first victory of the season, 14-43.
Our Falcons started out last season at 0-5 just like this year, and we still ended up with a 2nd place district finish, to continue into the state playoffs - next week starts district play, meaning it’s time to turn up the intensity. So come out next Thursday night (not Friday), when our Falcons take on the arch-rival Kickapoo Chiefs (fresh off a loss at Lebanon Friday night, 7-14). We will be the home team at JFK (Parkview’s stadium), so come out and cheer on our Falcons to their first victory, and an all-important district victory - GO FALCONS!!!
