Freshman Season Opener – Tale of Two Halves
Our Freshman Falcons opened their season Monday night by hosting the Camdenton Lakers. The Lakers spoiled the Falcons first home game, handing our boys a 13-28 loss. By half way through the second quarter, we had spotted Camdenton 3 touchdowns, and trailed 0-21 – the Falcons’ offense and defense both sputtered. But our young Falcons showed some heart, and refused to go away quietly – they finally mounted a great touchdown drive, and cut the deficit to 7-21 at the half.
In the second half, Camdenton scored another touchdown to increase their lead to 7-28, yet our Falcons fought back for another touchdown to make it 13-28 – which would be the final score of the game. So through the last 2 1/2 quarters of the game, the Freshman showed some great improvement, by shutting down the Lakers, and outscoring them 13-7. However, too many turnovers and penalties, and the early 21 point deficit, was just too big of a hole to dig out of.
We will look forward to the next Freshman game, when we host the Ozark Tigers on Monday September 17th (remember, the Hillcrest game originally scheduled for Monday September 10th has been canceled because Hillcrest does not have enough Freshman players to field a team).
GO FALCONS!
