Glendale Goes 1-2 Again This Week
Our Glendale Falcons went 1-2 against the Joplin Eagles squads this week.
Last Friday night, our varsity squad hosted the Eagles, and lost 27-47. Initially it appeared we would trade touchdowns with Joplin in a scoring fest, but our offense turned the ball over too many times, and the defense had trouble stopping the high-flying, pass-happy offense of the Eagles.
Last night (Monday), the JV squad traveled to Joplin, and lost 22-52. Freshman quarterback Skylar Ladd threw a touchdown pass to Zack Lee, and Skylar also added 2 other rushing TDs. Celab Bolda was having a good rushing night, until he went down with an injury late in the first half.
Also last night, the Freshman squad scored their first victory of the season with a 27-26 win over the visiting Eagles! After falling behind 0-14 by the end of the first quarter, our Falcons battled back. Trailing 7-14, the defense came up with a huge stop toward the end of the first half, keeping Joplin from possibly going up 7-21. Then, with less than 2 minutes to go, the offense marched 80+ yards (highlighted by a huge run on a half-back reverse by Philip Hite), and managed to tie the game at 14 for the half. And actually, they scored two touchdowns in the last 17 seconds of the half – the first one being nullified by an illegal procedure penalty, but then they scored again on the very next play! In the 3rd quarter, Joplin scored again to take the lead 14-20, then our Falcons scored a 3rd touchdown, and with a good PAT, took their first lead of the season 21-20. Touchdowns were traded again in the 4th quarter, and with the defense holding off the Eagles on a 4th down play at the end of the game, the 27-26 win was preserved!
Up next – the always tough Waynesville Tigers – GO FALCONS!!
