DISTRICT 5 CHAMPIONS!!!

Our Glendale Falcons arrived Friday night for a home game at JFK stadium, with a 2-0 record in District 5 play.  The Kickapoo Chiefs arrived at JFK, with a 2-0 record in District 5 play.  It was a winner-take-all game – with the winner moving on to the coveted state playoffs.  Most people were expecting a close, tight game between the Falcons and Chiefs.  But our high-flying Falcons had other ideas – we smashed Kickapoo 48-7!

It was another night where we played a complete game, all 4 quarters, just like last week at Lebanon.  Despite going 3-and-out on the first drive of the game, and then allowing Kickapoo to move 71 yards down field for the first score of the game, giving them a 7-0 lead, the offense started firing and the defense was stifling.  It was 28-7 by the half, with 3 more touch downs in the second half.  This night would mark the first time Glendale has won a District championship since our Senior boys were Freshman (who, remember, beat the Kickapoo Freshman team that year!), back in 2003.  And it would also mark the first time Glendale’s varsity football team has beaten Kickapoo in some 8 or 9 years!

After winning their district, with a 49-21 victory over Lee’s Summit Thursday night, our first opponent in the District playoffs will be 2-time defending 5A state champions, the Raymore-Peculiar Panthers.  During their 2 years of undefeated seasons, while collecting those 2 state championships, Ray-Pec was in our district.  So, they are a familiar foe, and a formidable one.  The good news is Ray-Pec has lost 3 games this year – the bad news being those losses all came at the hands of 6A schools, because Ray-Pec chose to play up in some games this year.  But they are obviously beatable, and our Falcons are on an incredible roll now – 4 wins in-a-row, outscoring our opponents 127-41 through those 4 victories.

Join our Falcons as they will travel to Peculiar, MO to take on the Ray-Pec Panthers, on Friday night November 10th at 7:00pm.  Our Falcons need all the support we can muster, especially since this game is such a long way from home.  Make your plans now to travel to the K.C. area for this huge game next Friday.

And Coach Heman says “keep your eyes open for some District Champion T-shirts”, that should be available soon!  GO FALCONS!!!

  1. I went to the Glendale-Kickapoo game on Friday and Glendale put it on Kickapoo pretty good. I was very ashamed of the Glendale announcer and how bias he was in his coverage of the game. To have to sit and listen to a “homer” for 4 quarters was terrible. I tried to think of a game where I was listening to a home team announcer that acted and called a game so one sided. That was a first and so much for good sportsmanship he talked about at the start of the game. I go to watch a HS rivaly football game and have to listen to this guy for 2 hours. He took the fun right out of the game. I have never commented on a game before but I couldn’t let a one sided announcer go without being called out. Glendale won the game going away. You would thnk that would be enough, but to listen to this guy all night was over the top.

  2. Well, I guess I am not sure what specifically you are referring to. This was a home game for Glendale, although the GHS-KHS game is always played at JFK, so it naturally should have a significant bias toward the home team. I don’t think I noticed anything different about it than all the rest of our GHS home games this year. In fact, I remember him specifically saying a couple of times “good play” by a Kickapoo player.

We have attended away games this year where the opposing team’s announcer made virtually no effort to even call out our players’ names, let alone call any attention to our good plays. So personally, I feel our announcer does a good job of calling the games. And I would want him to be rooting for the home team – certainly not to the point of degrading the other team, but I don’t think that happened at all.
