Falcons Defeat Vikings in Another Nailbiter

The Parkview Vikings came to Glendale on Homecoming night, to begin district play.  The Vikings played a tight game, particularly in the second half, but our Falcons held on to win 22-14.

In the first half, it was all Glendale, despite Parkview scoring first on a big run play to take a 8-0 lead.  In the closing minute of the 1st quarter, our Falcons tied it up 8-8.  Then in the second quarter, the offense racked up two more touchdowns, while the defense kept the Vikings out of the endzone – it was 22-8 at the half, and looking like a game where our Falcons would roll on to an easy victory.  But as Chris Berman of ESPN lore likes to say, “that’s why they play the game!”

The Vikings scored a touchdown on another big run play, making the score 22-14, while the Falcons could not manage to finish any drives, with some turnovers to halt those drives.  The Vikings drove down to the 5 yard line in the closing minutes of the game, and with no timeouts left, under a hurried attempt to run a play with under 10 seconds to go, the snap was fumbled, Glendale fell on it, and secured the victory.  This brings our Falcons to 3-5 overall, 2 wins in-a-row now, and 1-0 in District 5.

Next week we travel to Lebanon to face the 4-4 Yellowjackets, who have now lost 4 games in-a-row, after losing at Kickapoo Friday night 14-16.   But if the game against Parkview is any indication, our Falcons will need to really step up the intensity to have a shot at beating Lebanon.  We must eliminate giving up big plays, hang on to the ball, and get fired up.  You can help – come up to Lebanon and support your Falcons next Friday night – GO FALCONS!!!

  1. 2 things we better do.

    1. Play with more heart, show what you’re made of and get fired up. Looked pretty dead, even on the potential game winning drive. If not, then put in some of the young guys, give them a chance.

    2. Pitch the danged ball. Pretty easy to defend the option when all you run is the dive and qb keeper.
