Falcons Give the Gift of Victory to Rolla

Our Falcons traveled to Rolla in hopes of spoiling the Bulldogs’ Homecoming, and in a game where we led from the beginning until the last 50 seconds of the game, we ended up losing 20-21.

Our Falcons came out looking the best they have looked all year. We took the opening drive right downfield to score a touchdown. The defense kept the Bulldogs at bay, while the offense scored another touchdown for 14-0 lead at the end of the 1st quarter.

Our Falcons had several opportunities to really put the Bulldogs away in the first half, but 3 turnovers kept the Bulldogs hanging around. Rolla drove near the endzone at the close of the first half, but the defense kept them out. Rolla opted to go for a field goal. The snap was muffed, and several Falcons closed in on the holder. The Rolla holder managed to flip a pass into the endzone, which was caught for a touchdown. Glendale goes into the half with a 14-7 lead, rather than a 14-3 or 14-0 lead.

The Bulldogs tied the game in the 3rd quarter, then our Falcons took the lead again – but the extra point snap was muffed, and we led 20-14. Our Falcons later drove near the endzone and attempted a field goal, but it was wide right. The Bulldogs took over with under 4 minutes to go in the game. The defense was holding up, but a 15-yard roughing the passer penalty helped the Bulldogs into Falcon territory. On a 4th and 17, after a big sack of Rolla’s quarterback, our Falcons surrendered a 50-yard pass completion inside the 5 yard line. Rolla scored a touchdown on the next play, and made the extra point taking a 21-20 lead. With under a minute to play, our Falcons got the ball back. We managed to drive down to the Bulldogs 30 yard line, but it was too little, too late – a final pass was intercepted in the endzone as time ran out.

Our next game is the Senior Night game, where we will host the West Plains Zizzers (2 wins, 4 losses: 41-6 win hosting Parkview, 20-27 loss at Lebanon, 20-49 loss at Joplin, 9-7 win hosting Kickapoo, 7-31 loss at Rolla, 28-35 loss hosting Camdenton). We will be looking for a big Senior Night win over the Zizzers! GO FALCONS!!!
